Bible Reading – Hebrews 6:19, NIV: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,” Message This is the time of year when many of you, like me would be heading off to warmer climes (although as I write this it is pretty warm here). We have often taken in a sea voyage (day trip) on our holidays. Sometimes a trip around the island we were staying on or even a trip out in the Bridlington Bell in choppy chilly weather. Our island trip usually takes in an almost deserted beach (deserted but for the three boats of day trippers who had got there first) followed by the kids jumping in the clear water, and us grown ups finding somewhere and something cool! But to get off the boat we need to descend the gang plank and walk onto the beach. Something we don’t think much about, only that bit when we step off the boat onto the gang plank which seems to be moving in the opposite direction. If at that point we looked around we would see that in the sand just ahead of us is a large Anchor stopping the boat from moving away from the beach. We often sing about anchors in church. How Jesus is our Anchor in the storms of life, and it conjures images of a boat in the midst of a storm being held safe by its anchor. Our Bible verse today says our hope (Jesus) anchors us in God’s inner sanctum, in the holy of holies. It anchors us in God’s very presence, so our anchor keeps us close to God always. No matter how long the connection between God and us becomes we are still anchored in his love.

Song :-

You are my anchor My light and my salvation. You are my refuge, My heart will not fear. Though my foes surround me on every hand, They will stumble and fall While in grace I stand. In my day of trouble You hide me and set me above To sing this song of love. One thing I will ask of You, this will I pray: To dwell in Your house, O Lord, every day, To gaze upon Your lovely face, And rest in the Father’s embrace. Teach me Your way, Lord, Make straight the path before me. Do not forsake me, my hope is in You. As I walk through life, I am confident I will see Your goodness with every step, And my heart directs me to seek You In all that I do, So I will wait for You…
