Message – Pentecost 31st May 2020

(Acts 21-21) Pentecost saw crowds of followers of Christ together, in Luke’s account of the coming of the Holy spirit — an event which must have been terrifying, but also exhilarating for those gathered together.

During lockdown our churches have been closed, and we have explored new ways of worship.  The services and chats online are reaching people on the other side of the world, and also being watched by those outside our membership.  Daily, we see acts of kindness, shopping, baking, phoning around, delivering worship and newsletters for those not online, all done through the power of the spirit.

At Pentecost the spirit came as wind and fire, a strong force, but sometimes the Holy Spirit comes quietly into our lives, through a word, a song, a warmth in hearts, touching us with God’s love, a still small voice of calm.

The spirit has existed since before creation, hovering over the waters. Working in our lives, promised by Jesus when he returned to His Father: through the spirit He gives us his energy, his power to enable us to do all things in his strength.  This wonderful gift is freely available to all who call on Him, all who follow Him and all who trust in Him.  All we need to do is ask to be filled to overflowing with this gift.

Prayer Faithful God, we come to you in lockdown, crying out for the power of the Holy Spirit.  Lord, send your spirit to us, rain down on us, fill us, feed us until our hearts are overflowing with your love, your strength and your power.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

Blessings to you all in this difficult time. Kath

Holy Spirit come

Holy Spirit come

Heal our hearts our lives

Cleanse our thoughts our minds

Holy Spirit come Oh come to us

Holy Spirit fall

Holy Spirit fall

Drench us with Your love

Fill our lives with peace

Holy Spirit fall Oh fall on us

Holy Spirit flow

Holy Spirit flow

Lead us in Your will

Empowered to proclaim

Holy Spirit flow

Oh flow through us
