Scott’s Message

Hello everyone.

As a player of music for worship it’s a good idea I find to have a few songs ready to play without music. The most obvious being ‘Happy Birthday to You’ which on many occasions has been requested at a moment’s notice without any warning!

There’s another song I sometimes play without music while the offering is taken up. ‘Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart’. This is useful if the offering isn’t on the order of service so I can’t plan ahead, and the words are very suitable for the occasion I think, giving thanks as your offering is given.

‘Lord I Lift Your Name on High’ is another song I’m pleased to have at my fingertips as it were. The words for the chorus stand out for me because they tell the gospel story powerfully in three lines….

‘You came from heaven to earth to show the way

From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay

From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky…’

In John14:6 Jesus shows us the way “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”And of course, Jesus followed his father’s will and gave himself up to be crucified, taking the debt, the sin of the world past, present and future on His shoulders. And there was a grave ready for him (Luke 23:50-53) Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.

But Jesus didn’t need that tomb for long! We celebrate that on the third day He rose from the grave and appeared to His disciples, before ascending into heaven to be back with His Father. Mark 16:19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.

Our family world (my sister June, my brother Tom and I) was changed suddenly at the end of May when our Mum suffered a stroke. I say a huge thank you to everyone who has prayed for Mum and for us since then, during a time which was made even more trying by the Covid restrictions as you can imagine. Presently we are all settling into a new situation where Mum is in residential care and is doing well.

Thinking over what has happened there have been many instances where our Lord was in control and prayers were answered, although I didn’t realise it at the time. Thank you Lord. I Lift Your Name on High.

Lord I love to sing your praises;

I’m so glad you’re in my life,

I’m so glad you came to save us.

You came from Heaven to earth, to show the way,

From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay,

From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky,

Lord I lift your name on high.
