Weekly Message 7th June 2020

We all know the story of Zacchaeus, Don’t we? No! well Bibles out it is in Luke 9:1-10, right now you know the story of Zacchaeus. Jesus is travelling to Jerusalem and is passing through Jericho that’s a city to the North East of Jerusalem near the dead sea. The crowds were out to see Jesus that day probable because he had healed a blind man on his way into the city and word had got around. So the crowds are out and Zacchaeus being short can’t see for the crowd and goes and climbs a tree for a better look. Quite what his motives are is unclear from the bible passage but he was obviously curious about Jesus. Jesus Does no more than walk under the tree and stop and call Zacchaeus down and tell him he is stopping at his house. Much to the crowds disdain “Look he’s Staying at a sinners house” because Zacchaeus was a tax collector for the Romans, a collaborator and he was considered a thief, he collected taxes for the Romans and added a bit on for him self. So wealthy, but not very popular.

Jesus inviting him self into Zacchaeus’s house obviously made an impression with him and caused him to change his ways (repent) and pay back the money he had twisted out of people.

Jesus visited Zacchaeus He called him by name (from the tree) He visits us and calls us by name were ever we are and asks us to change our ways, and it is up to us whether we accept.

Luke 19:10 The Son of Man came to find lost people and save them.”

Zacchaeus was a very little man
And a very little man was he
He climbed up into a sycamore tree
For the Saviour he wanted to see

And when the Saviour passed that way
He looked into the tree
And said, “Now, Zacchaeus, you come down
For I’m coming to your house for tea”
